Wedding invitations sent by email

The concept of sending wedding invitations is a practice that has been carried out for years and years, this is nothing new. However, what about sending your invitations online? Over the past decade the Internet has grown exponentially and the notion of doing things online is quite a common thing - from your weekly food shop to paying your bills, there isn’t anything you cannot do online these days.

So why not save money, be environmentally friendly and send your wedding invitations online via email? Let us weigh up the pros and cons of this suggestion and you can decide for yourself:

The Pros:

- Save Money – as stated previously you can save a bundle of money as sending invitation via email is free or at the most would cost a few pounds. Hallmark for example have a section where you can send free e-cards or you can buy e-cards – even to buy they are very cheap,

- Save Time – save yourself time as you do not have to have them printed, addressed out and then posted. Plus save the time it takes to wait for the replies through snail mail and tally up who is attending and who has declined. Sending the invitation online would save your guests time as well as it is much quicker and faster to send an email back than a hard copy.

- Give more information – on the e-card you can include important links such as to nearby hotels, directions and travel information, and local attractions for example so the visitor can easily click on the sites and read more about them.

The Cons:

- Traditions Count – some of your guests, especially those with traditional views, may feel sending an invitation online does not adhere to the rules of etiquette.

- Correct email addresses – gathering a list of all your quests email addresses can be a time consuming job and is open to human error. If there is an error on a written invitation it is quite likely it will still be received however is just one character is wrong in an email address it will not be received by the guest.

- Not everyone is online! – Although the majority of people are online today there is still a percentage that are not, and you would need to print out and post invitations to these people.
